Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions families ask most.

Basics

What is an adult family home, and how is it different from assisted living, a nursing home, or a home care agency?

Under Washington law, an adult family home is a residential home that provides personal care, room and board for two to six adults (up to eight with state approval). It’s closer to family life than a large facility, and our home is licensed for six residents. A home care agency, by contrast, sends caregivers to your loved one’s own home for a few hours at a time. At First Class Luxury, your loved one lives with us, with meals, housing, and care all in one place. Assisted living facilities and nursing homes are usually larger settings, licensed under separate state rules.

What services do you offer?

Personal care, companionship, medication management, meal planning and preparation, mobility assistance, transportation, and respite care. See Care & Services.

Who is a good fit for your home?

We care for adults who need help with daily personal care, including people living with dementia or mental health conditions (our DSHS specialty designations). The best way to know is to talk with us and visit.

How many residents live here?

Our home is licensed by DSHS for six residents.

Care

Who provides care day and night?

A resident manager lives in the home, and certified nursing assistants or long-term care workers are on site 24 hours a day. Overnight support follows each resident’s care plan.

How do you handle medications?

Nurse-delegated caregivers provide full medication assistance, including insulin injections and blood sugar checks, following each resident’s prescriptions.

How are care plans made?

We start with a written assessment and build a personalized care plan with you and your loved one. Washington rules require the assessment to be updated at least every 12 months, and sooner when needs change or you ask.

What happens if my loved one’s needs change or there’s a medical emergency?

When needs change, we update the assessment and care plan, and we work with home health and hospice services when they’re needed. Ask us during your tour how we handle emergencies; we’ll walk you through it.

Do you support memory loss?

Yes. Our home holds a DSHS specialty designation for dementia care, as well as one for mental health.

Can my loved one keep their own doctor?

Talk with us about your loved one’s doctors during your tour. We work with home health and hospice services, and we’ll explain how we coordinate with each resident’s healthcare providers.

What are the food and dietary options?

Three nutritious meals a day plus snacks, customized to dietary preferences and restrictions. We can prepare a mechanical soft diet.

Do you offer respite care?

Yes. We offer temporary relief for family caregivers, so they can rest while their loved one stays well cared for. Call us to ask about availability for a respite stay.

Costs

What are the costs, and what’s included?

Pricing depends on the level of care each resident needs. Call us for a personalized quote, and we’ll explain exactly what’s included.

Do you take long-term care insurance, Medicaid, or VA benefits?

We hold a DSHS adult family home contract, so we can accept Medicaid under our policy on file with the state: residents who pay privately for two years and then qualify for Medicaid can stay with us, moving to a semi-private room we designate for Medicaid. Ask us about other payment options, such as long-term care insurance, when you call.

Visiting & family

Can we visit before deciding?

Yes. If you have more questions, make an appointment and pay us a visit. Nancy, our Manager, schedules tours.

Can family visit anytime? Can we bring pets or furniture?

Family and friends are welcome. Call ahead so we can plan around residents’ routines, and ask us about pets and bringing furniture or keepsakes during your tour.
